BEST OF THE WEB: THE LATEST BEARD AND MOUSTACHE NEWS (5/8/17)

If you’ve been bearded for a long time, it can be shocking to see yourself in old photos sans beard. That’s exactly the case this week with actor Kristoffer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane on Game of Thrones), who shared a throwback Instagram post of himself when his face was a lot less hairy. Fair warning: you may want to sit down for this one. Thankfully, Hivju isn’t planning to go back to his clean-shaven look anytime soon, and in fact has some prize tips for starting a beard – including drinking beer, lots of beer.

Another brother whose beard won’t be going anywhere is MLB closer Jason Motte, who’s currently clean shaven due to his stint for Triple-A Gwinnett. Now that he’s signed on with the Atlanta Braves, which has no rules about facial hair, he promises his beard will be back in full force.

In politics, Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn is being scrutinized for keeping his beard (the first for his party since the early 1900s), and evolutionary biologist Rob Brooks looks at the economic and social reasons for beard growing.

Also, we gear you up for summer hangs and trips with our guide to lifestyle essentials for the beardsman.
